Senioritis

First Semester of Senior Year.

Gone.

It dragged, but at the same time it came and went fast. I'm halfway there, and it's a rather interesting feeling. I'm excited, relieved, confused, and even a little scared. I get a brief break this weekend (Half day tomorrow and no school Monday), but after that, things start to pile up again.

I don't think that I can't handle what comes my way. I'm ready to tackle whatever life and school chooses to throw at me. It's just wondering what exactly is coming my way. Particularly after graduation. I will be taking a 1-2 week break (maybe more, depending on whether or not I get accepted to any colleges right away, and when they officially start when I do).

For Graduation, my mother is going to try and get me Adobe Creative Suite. For those who don't know, it's a legal collection of Adobe and Macromedia programs (Photoshop and Flash CS4, Illustrator, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, etc...) on the Adobe Store, and the student discount cuts down the price BIG time. So I'll have programs ranging from animation to web page design and coding. That's something I'm looking forward to.

Gotta figure out job and school schedules...transportation (I dont have a car or a license yet), etc etc. It's comin' fast.

I'm excited for college. I'm not blind to the fact that it will be crazy hard work, and that some things will just drive me bonkers, but it's a challenge I want to take. It's the beginning of my very future, and if I keep on pushin' through, maybe I'll be able to achieve my dream job and live a fairly comfortable life.

The work'll definitely be all worth it if I could just get that...to find some way to live on my own (or with a future other) in a somewhat comfortable financial situation...No extreme debts, no missed payments. That's the very base of what I want in life.

Here I go, rambling again. This blog should be about my progress as a beginning artist. Haha. I'm still working on that. Sometimes, I feel as though I'm not quite getting certain things. Nothin' left but to keep going over them until I do.

Over that little bump in the road.

I actually decided to hush up and post a bit of art! XD

First up is some tablet doodling. Mostly mindless, not thinking doodling. I'll probably post more of these as I do more. No real focus here.



Next up is something rather interesting to me. I started doodling this pic here, and when I looked at it, it was icky looking:



But with a bit of fiddling and a click of a button, I eventually came to this, just by inverting:



Pretty nifty, eh? I may use this type of thing again sometime. Just to experiment and see how things turn out. :)

Nothin' Special

Is sometimes what I feel about my art.

Yeah, another little artistic rut. I'm sure we all go through these once in a while. Stepping back to look at what I've done, I've seen minor improvements here and there, sure...but what makes it worthwhile to look at? What makes it different from the crowd? After looking, I've realized that nothing really makes it stand out.

Not that I absolutely have to be a special little snowflake, but it seems like my work is just another sheep in the herd. It's a little depressing, you know? Of course, nothing will make me ever stop drawing, not even this. Even if I never make it big, and end up doing grunt work the rest of my life, as long as I'm drawing and learning.

I'd like to take my art somewhere, though. Animated Movies? That's a dream come true. Cartoons? Just the same. But if I only make a small impact on the world, it's not going to be the end of it.

I should probably shut up and do some more studying. LOL (I am doing some in between typing this. Sketchbooks in my lap.)

I'm sure all of this depressing stuff will seep out of my head soon enough, and I'll be back on the grind with a smile and high hopes.

It is good to get it out though. :)

School

School has been taking it's toll on me.

Just a little.

It's nothing I can't handle, but it's been tiring to get slammed with projects and quizzes and tests and the finals coming up, as well as having a stomach virus (Which is over now, thank goodness!). I've been tired lately, and have almost been taking naps every day! Haha.

I'm working to keep my GPA up. I passed a recent Math Test (big one) and that bumped my failing math grade all the way up to a C+. If things go smoothly, I can get it back up to a B, and pass this semester with a 3.4 GPA or better. I'm shootin' for the 3.6.

I've gotten my new schedule. Pretty happy with it! The basics, but I managed to get into the Graphic Design Adv. and Culinary Arts Adv. classes. I'm excited for both, as they'll be the highlights of my day (Graphic Design being at the end of it, and Culinary Arts taking up two periods.)

Senior year is almost over...Just another Semester to go, and I'm all set! I still have portfolio work to do...As well as my actual art portfolio that I have to start building up A.S.A.P. I'm going to do research on what makes a successful art portfolio, so I can make mine great. Of course, I'm going to throw in my own little creative flair, and not JUST copy what's been deemed as good. ;) But for what impresses the most I need to figure out, so I can be ahead of the game.

Also have to figure out a job after graduation, so I can start help paying bills. It's going to be a whiiiile before I can even move out, unless I get a good scholarship for dorm rooms at a college. LOL.

"Feel The Waves"

No sign up, no e-mail required...You can listen to some awesome music there. :D One of their songs, "Feel the Waves" is what inspired the picture above.

It took a little over two hours with Photoshop 7.0 and my Wacom Tablet. No special brushes or anything were used. There's a few mistakes that come to mind now, but overall I'm not disappointed with how it came out. :)

I'll try to fiddle with some watercolor painting so I can better learn to blend colors, and get better results in my digital paintings. It was a fun pic to do, albeit frustrating with all the layers and me mixing stuff up.

Still Studying

Hey guys! Sorry for the lack of updates. I almost forgot that I had a blog. LOL

My scanner is yet again on the fritz. I had it fixed for about a day, and now it simply refuses to work. It really bums me out. Thankfully, I got a Wacom Intuos 3 9x12 Tablet for Christmas, so for the time being, all I can really upload is digital art.

I've gotten a hold of the book "The Complete Book of Drawing" from my School Library, and reading through it is helping me see things in a slightly different way. It's basically a "Beginner to Expert" workbook. But it's very helpful!

In my Commercial Art class, our newest project is creating a childrens book based off of a small selection of stories. We get to choose the story, then hand make a book and illustrate it. It's gotta be professional quality too. Quite the challenge, seeing as I'm no real crafts person, but I'll tackle it!

The end of my first semester is coming fast....I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Half of Senior year of high school already passing. They weren't kidding when they said it'd go fast! LOL

As for drawings, My current short-term goals are:

-Get a better understanding of hair.
-Work on the male anatomy (I've been slacking in that department)
-Work towards making my art have more volume. (It's very flat. :[ )
